American Revolution Museum “Virtual” Field Trip
October 8, 2021 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm
This is something I am planning for my own kids this year, and I wanted to invite PCCHE to participate as well because learning American History will be more fun with friends! Using the Unit Study method, each month we are going to learn about a different war the United States has been involved in. This will be mostly geared towards middle and high school students, but elementary students could also participate, especially if they have an older sibling participating.
I am not following any particular curriculum to put together each unit study. We will complete most of our assignments at home, but will also meet once or twice a month to go over what we’ve learned, as well as for field trips pertaining to that month’s war. Our home assignments will be research/essay style for a particular battle and/or historical figure for that month’s war, as well as reading a fiction novel set during that war, reading nonfiction/biography novels, movies, etc…I’ll have a list prepared that we will be using for each war…but the home assignments will be completely up to each parent to assign. You could also just opt to show up for the meetups and field trips and not do any of the assignments at home. This will not be a “drop-off” class, although a parent will not be required to stay the whole time for a mature and exceptionally well behaved teen.

For October’s first get together for the American Revolution, we will meet at WPBC to go on a Virtual Fieldtrip to the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, PA. Part of this virtual fieldtrip will be based on the Scholastic book I Survived the American Revolution, 1776. Reading this book is not a prerequisite to attend. I will facilitate each meetup, unless someone else has some expertise to share! I am certainly no expert myself! Attendance for all months is not required to participate…feel free to drop in and out as you like. Please RSVP your child’s name and age on Facebook or by email to give us an idea of how many to expect.
