SUMMARY:Operation Christmas Child Processing Center
DESCRIPTION:Before the millions of shoebox gifts collected each year can bring hope and joy to children around the world\, each one has to be carefully inspected and made ready for international shipment by volunteers like you. Tens of thousands of volunteers serve annually at eight shoebox processing centers across the United States.\nWe will need to arrive 30 minutes before check-in to watch a training video. Meeting location to drop off your teen/teens will be in the Weatherford Lowe’s parking lot.\nVolunteers MUST be at least 13 years old. This is a strict requirement and parents must fill out a permission slip. Please RSVP with the names of everyone in your family who would like to participate (please include ages of participating children and your email address so that the minor consent can be sent to you). Also\, if you would like to volunteer to drive others to the processing center\, please comment also.

SUMMARY:American Revolution Museum "Virtual" Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:This is something I am planning for my own kids this year\, and I wanted to invite PCCHE to participate as well because learning American History will be more fun with friends! Using the Unit Study method\, each month we are going to learn about a different war the United States has been involved in. This will be mostly geared towards middle and high school students\, but elementary students could also participate\, especially if they have an older sibling participating.\nI am not following any particular curriculum to put together each unit study. We will complete most of our assignments at home\, but will also meet once or twice a month to go over what we’ve learned\, as well as for field trips pertaining to that month’s war. Our home assignments will be research/essay style for a particular battle and/or historical figure for that month’s war\, as well as reading a fiction novel set during that war\, reading nonfiction/biography novels\, movies\, etc…I’ll have a list prepared that we will be using for each war…but the home assignments will be completely up to each parent to assign. You could also just opt to show up for the meetups and field trips and not do any of the assignments at home. This will not be a “drop-off” class\, although a parent will not be required to stay the whole time for a mature and exceptionally well behaved teen. \n– Shana\n\nMy preliminary schedule is:\nOctober – The American Revolution\nNovember – The Civil War\nJanuary – World War I\nFebruary – World War II\nMarch – Korean War\nApril – Vietnam War\nMay – Gulf War/War on Terrorism\nFor October’s first get together for the American Revolution\, we will meet at WPBC to go on a Virtual Fieldtrip to the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia\, PA. Part of this virtual fieldtrip will be based on the Scholastic book I Survived the American Revolution\, 1776. Reading this book is not a prerequisite to attend. I will facilitate each meetup\, unless someone else has some expertise to share! I am certainly no expert myself! Attendance for all months is not required to participate…feel free to drop in and out as you like. Please RSVP your child’s name and age on Facebook or by email to give us an idea of how many to expect.

Their address is…\nLikewise\, at the end of the evening\, you may either pick up your teen from the TBA house\, or we can meet you back at Lowe’s sometime around 8:30-9:00.\nWe are asking that everyone please pay $5 per person to help out the host families with the food costs. A firm RSVP and payment in advance is required so that each host family will know how much food to prepare\, and we will know how many need rides. Please comment below how many will be attending the dinner\, as well as your intentions of either dropping off/picking up at the host home or meeting at Lowe’s. Contact me with any questions\, or if you’d like to volunteer ingredients/donations to help one of the host families…we are excited to fellowship house to house with PCCHE’s awesome teens!
